Gatherings

I organize gatherings that bring people together to experience, express, experiment, and grapple with compelling themes of our times, often in immersive settings that support deep participation in whatever it is we're exploring.

Death Cafe x ZineLab

When:

Saturday, March 29th

from 2-4:30 pm

Where:

Location shared with RSVP

- Hillsboro, VA

Spend your new moon solar eclipse with Em and Oscar at a combo Death Cafe x ZineLab! This will be a special twist on both the death cafe and the zinelab, where we'll begin by having an open discussion on whatever death-aging-dying-living topics folks want to share about, and then we'll individually collage one page of a zine that reflects what you shared or heard.

After we've each created a page, we'll put our pieces together to make a collective zine-poem-tapestry revealing our takes on death. Everyone will get a copy of the final zine we create.

RSVP
We've got space for 12 people to attend this event. You can RSVP via email using the button below.

What to bring
Some materials for the collaging will be provided, but we ask that you bring your own pair of scissors. If there are any materials you know you want to collage with, definitely bring those with you. Some snacks and drinks provided, but you are welcome to add to the mix with snacks and drinks you'd like to share.

Intro to Breathwork Circle at Alyn

When:

Sunday, April 6th 2025

from 3-4:30 pm

Where:

Alyn Wellness Studio

- The Plains, VA

This intro to breathwork circle is a relaxed, supportive space for folks to explore their relationship to breathing. You'll engage in thoughtful discussions about the practical and deeper aspects of breathing, and sample three different guided rounds of intentional breathing practices. There will be a chance to cultivate a sense of community and comradery around breathing as we open up about emotions and experiences with breathing, hear from others about how they relate to their breath, and together tap into the possibilities of this wild and wonderful part of life.

This event was born from the feeling that we don't have enough space in our lives to really unpack this most fundamental of supportive processes. It's not a breathwork session, but instead an exploratory space for discussion and technique sampling. It is meant to live somewhere between a quick breathing exercise on YouTube and a multi-hour emotional release integrative breathwork journey.

Come wearing comfy clothes. Bring a water bottle and a notebook/something to write with if you'd like. There will be a paper packet provided where you can jot down notes and reflections to take home with you after the event ends.

Bulgarian Singing Workshop

When: Saturday, February 1st 2025

from 2-5:00 pm

Where: Fox Haven

- Jefferson, MD

This is a participatory singing workshop led by the vocal ensemble Orfeia.

Orfeia is a women’s vocal ensemble dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional music from Bulgaria and Eastern Europe. Orfeia’s repertoire spans the rich and diverse musical heritage of Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Russia and their neighbors. From traditional to sacred and from the Middle Ages to modern day, the captivating sounds of the Balkans emerge in beautiful melodies, lush harmonies, unusual dissonances and vocal ornaments, unique rhythms, village songs, custom songs with overlapping lines, antiphonal songs with drones, seasonal music, dance music, and children’s songs. Orfeia places the music in its context – history, language, folklore and folk traditions – giving listeners and participants a window into the traditional culture of other countries.
……………………………………………………………

Founded in 2006 by the legendary Bulgarian singer Tatiana Sarbinska, Orfeia made its concert debut at a gala concert in Sofia, Bulgaria in honor of Tatiana Sarbinska and featuring Tatiana and an all-star roster of Bulgarian traditional singers and instrumentalists. Orfeia has performed in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria with the Pirin Ensemble, one of Bulgaria’s foremost national folk companies, at the National Festival of Bulgarian Folklore in Koprivshtitsa, at national competitions for compositions based on traditional Bulgarian music in Chepelare and Sofia, and in concerts in Sofia, Plovdiv and other cities throughout Bulgaria. Orfeia has been featured on The Slavi Show, Bulgaria’s most popular late-night television program, and on Bulgarian National Radio.

This event will take place at Fox Haven Farm and Learning Center, in Jefferson, Maryland. Suggested sliding scale donation: $10-20.

You can bring your donation to the event, or you can donate ahead of time on Orfeia's website here.
